Can I generate a photo mosaic for free?
Yes. Photo mosaic generation and preview are free, including crop, size, palette, and material checks. Complete personal PDF instructions and route-specific parts exports require a paid digital blueprint unlock. Physical bricks, hardware, tax, and shipping are separate.
How does BMBrick work?
BMBrick converts a photo into a LEGO-compatible mosaic blueprint, then lets you review crop, palette, and sourcing decisions before export. The key difference is that the workflow is designed around real build constraints instead of pretending every render is equally buildable.
Are my photos uploaded to your servers?
Your source photo is processed in the browser. Magic Cut loads its model remotely and runs background-removal inference locally. The generated build plan is saved for delivery and recovery, separately from the original photograph. Keep delivery links and downloaded files private.
How much can Magic Cut really save?
A cleaner crop may let you use a smaller grid. On a fixed grid, only cells actually skipped in the build plan reduce the pixel-part count; a solid-color replacement background still needs parts. Count width × height minus skipped cells, then estimate the selected route. There is no universal percentage saving.
What photo works best for a mosaic?
A clear subject, readable lighting, and enough separation from the background usually matter more than raw file size. Good source images reduce palette confusion, improve face readability, and give you more flexibility when you choose square, portrait, or landscape crops.
Can I use my own bricks?
Yes. Many builders use BMBrick to plan around the bricks they already own or to build a sourcing list for LEGO Pick a Brick, BrickLink, or a blended order strategy. The important part is that the output helps you see the consequence of each palette choice before checkout.
How long does a large mosaic take to build?
That depends on size, palette complexity, and how experienced the builder is, but most people should think in sessions, not minutes. Large projects become much easier when they are broken into modules and paired with high-contrast instructions instead of relying on color memory alone.
